As if we in the visual effects industry don’t have enough things to worry about.
While reading about Maxsar Digital’s unpaid artists / and the downsides of state incentives recently, almost at the same time, a friend sends me a link to a new VFX shop.
Zydeco FX is a VFX shop in Louisiana that opened in Aug 2011. * In the interest of full disclosure, I have worked with Greg Nelson at a vfx facility called WWFX on two projects in the past. Having said that, my thoughts as i go through their site.
“Incentivized VFX” This is their message, plain and simple. Aiming straight for producers and bean counters.

Facility Page: This VFX Facility is located in a University Technology center. It leases it’s facilities and render farm from the school’s Animation and Visual Effects program.
Must be nice.
So, when your film’s sequence is late because Johnny LSU-Freshman wouldn’t get off his box because he was working on his mid-term, you’ll at least be happy knowing you’ve saved some money on the shot from all these great incentives.
